Laguna Beach VBC is thrilled to welcome Coach Rochelle Short back for her 3rd season with the club. A former collegiate head coach and decorated club and high school coach, Coach Rochelle's desire to share her passion for and knowledge of the game comes through clearly in the energy that she brings to her teams.
What most would consider a late starter in the sport of volleyball, Coach Rochelle began her playing career in high school (transitioning from basketball) and things took off from there. She began her collegiate career at Cal St. Fullerton before transferring to Point Loma Nazarene University where she enjoyed a successful and decorated run. While at Point Loma Coach Rochelle guided her team to a Final Four appearance as well as another top 10 finish, breaking multiple school records and earning All-Conference, All-Region, and All-American honors in both her junior and senior years (2002, 2003).
Coach Rochelle has utilized the knowledge of the game, tenacity, and passion for the sport of volleyball that made her a great player to help her to create and lead successful teams at the collegiate, club, and high school levels. At the collegiate level Coach Rochelle was the Head Coach of the women's volleyball team at her alma mater, Point Loma Nazarene University (2008-2010). During that time Coach Rochelle helped bring about a resurgence in the program, leading them to the NAIA Championships each year and regaining a position as one of the top programs in the NAIA. During that time she guided two All-Americans, two scholar athletes, and four All-Conference performers. At the club level Coach Rochelle has coached all age levels, guiding numerous teams to qualify for the USAV Junior National Championships. Prior to joining Laguna Beach VBC Coach Rochelle was also the owner/director of her own club, Cross Point Volleyball Club, in Murrieta, CA. Currently, Coach Rochelle is also the Head Girls' Volleyball Coach at Rancho Christian School.
Coach Rochelle received her Bachelor's degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology from Point Loma Nazarene University (2003). When she is not coaching she enjs time with her husband, Mark, and four children, Brooke, Bryce, Ryleigh, and Chandler. Her oldest daughter, Brooke, recently graduated from Louisiana Tech University where she was the starting setter for the women's volleyball team and son, Bryce, will be a sophomore on the baseball team at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
